Shon Haluzani’s academic journey began with a focus on radiography and electronics, laying a strong foundation for his extensive career in medical imaging and education. He obtained his Diploma in Radiography: Diagnostic from Evelyn Hone College, Lusaka, Zambia, in December 1999, which equipped him with the fundamental skills in diagnostic imaging. This was followed by a Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from City & Guilds, London, UK, in December 2003, showcasing his versatility and technical acumen.

In January 2010, Haluzani achieved his Bachelor of Technology Degree in Radiography: Diagnostic from Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Pretoria, South Africa. This academic milestone was pivotal, allowing him to delve deeper into the specialized field of radiography. He further pursued advanced studies with a Master of Science Degree in Radiography: Diagnostic from the National University of Science & Technology (NUST) in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, completed in December 2016. This postgraduate degree enhanced his expertise and understanding of diagnostic radiography, preparing him for leadership roles in his field.

🏢Professional Endeavors

Haluzani’s professional career has been marked by significant contributions to education, research, and clinical practice. Since December 2017, he has served as the Head of the Department of Medical Radiation Sciences at Lusaka Apex Medical University (LAMU), Zambia. In this role, he has demonstrated exemplary leadership by overseeing departmental planning, conducting meetings, and managing both full-time and part-time lecturers. His responsibilities include teaching core radiography modules, supervising student research projects, and ensuring high standards in the department’s operations.

Prior to this role, Haluzani was a lecturer at Evelyn Hone College from May 2016 to December 2017, where he taught radiography students and conducted intensive courses in imaging processes. His earlier tenure at Swaziland Christian University from August 2013 to December 2015 involved teaching basic human anatomy, radiographic physics, and radiation science to students across various health disciplines. His clinical experience includes diagnostic radiography and sonography roles at Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital and Good Shepherd Mission Hospital in Swaziland.

Haluzani’s contributions extend beyond teaching into the realms of research and practical application in radiography and ultrasound. His work with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Population Council as an Ultrasound Training Consultant and Chief Trainer has been instrumental in designing ultrasound training manuals and conducting training for frontline healthcare workers in Zambia. His involvement in the New Antenatal Model for Africa and India (NAMAI) project highlights his commitment to improving maternal and neonatal care through effective ultrasound training.

He has also played a pivotal role in integrating a Basic ANC ultrasound module into the midwifery curriculum in Zambia and developed continuing professional development (CPD) modules for nursing and midwifery professionals. His research activities include protocol development and conducting research aimed at improving maternal healthcare quality in Africa through the NIHR Global Health Research Group.
