Natural Products Research Center of Guizhou Province | China

Dr. Liangqun Li is a distinguished researcher in natural products chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and functional natural product development, widely recognized for his contributions to the scientific understanding of bioactive plant compounds, particularly those derived from Guizhou’s characteristic botanical resources such as Rosa roxburghii. As a Researcher at the Guizhou Research Center for Natural Products, the National Key Laboratory of Efficacy Components of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Their Utilization, and the Institute of Functional Natural Products, he leads high-impact investigations into efficacy material basis, molecular pathways, and translational utilization of natural compounds. Dr. Li’s scholarly influence is reflected in his strong research metrics, with 293 citations from 275 citing documents, 35 published documents, and an h-index of 11, underscoring his growing global impact in the fields of natural products, phytochemistry, and medicinal biosciences. Before his current role, he completed a productive postdoctoral fellowship at the Key Laboratory of Plant Resources & Biotechnology, Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, advancing the identification and functional analysis of key genes involved in pennogenin saponin biosynthesis in Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis. His earlier experience as an R&D Specialist at Yunnan Baiyao Group strengthened his expertise in pharmaceutical formulation, chemical generic drug development, innovative health-care products, and applied medicinal chemistry. Dr. Li earned his Doctor of Science in Medicinal Chemistry from the Kunming Institute of Botany in collaboration with Yunnan University, preceded by a Master of Pharmacy and a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Kunming Medical University and Haiyuan College. His scholarly contributions include significant publications such as Effects and formula optimization of Rosa roxburghii pomace substrate on the yield and volatile flavor compounds of Lentinula edodes, Therapeutic potential of Rosa roxburghii folium extract in insomnia treatment, Combined metabolite and transcriptomic profiling unveil a potential gene network involved in the triterpenoid metabolism of Rosa roxburghii, Acer truncatum seed oil and Rosa roxburghii juice submicron emulsion: preparation and its therapeutic potential in alleviating scopolamine-induced memory impairment in mice, Isolation, identification, phytochemical characterization and in vitro anti-inflammatory property of an endophytic Trametes versicolor CL-1 isolated from Rosa roxburghii, In vitro neurotrophic properties and structural characterization of a new polysaccharide LTC-1 from Pyrola corbieri Levl, Effect on hypoglycemic activity and UPLC-MS/MS profiling of Rosa roxburghii fruit fermented with Chinese traditional distiller’s yeast, Preparation and characterization of calcium-incorporated Rosa roxburghii Tratt and its efficacy on bone mineral density in rats, Microbial transformation of diosgenin to diosgenone by Wickerhamomyces anomalus JQ-1, and multiple works on asymmetric total synthesis of natural product derivatives including triptophenolide, triptolide, dichroanone, taiwaniaquinone H, brazilin, brazilein, and brazilide A. Through his integrated research combining metabolomics, transcriptomics, biosynthesis, phytochemistry, and innovative natural product engineering, Dr. Li continues to advance the scientific landscape of medicinal plants, contributing to novel therapeutic insights, biochemical pathway discovery, and the modernization of traditional medicinal resources.
