Early Academic Pursuits 🎓

Atefeh Nasir Kansestani was born on May 26, 1990, in Kermanshah, Iran. Her journey in the medical sciences began at the Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, where she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (2009-2013). During her undergraduate studies, she excelled academically, achieving top ranks among her peers. She completed her Master’s in Medical Immunology (2013-2016), also at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, with a stellar GPA of 3.94 out of 4. Her thesis, supervised by Prof. Ali Mostafaie, investigated the expression of SIRT, NF-κB, and P53 in breast adenocarcinoma cell lines under different glucose conditions, laying the groundwork for her future interest in tumor biology and diagnostics. Atefeh is currently advancing her expertise with a Ph.D. in Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics at Zhejiang University, China (2021-present), where she is expanding her research into laboratory diagnostics and tumor biology.

Professional Endeavors 🧬

Atefeh has built a multifaceted career in laboratory science and diagnostics. She has held various positions at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, including her role as a Laboratory Supervisor for the SARS-CoV-2 Task Force during the COVID-19 pandemic. This critical position, which she began in February 2020, involved managing testing and research efforts in the SARS-CoV-2 Special Laboratory, ensuring high standards of public health service during a challenging time. Before this, Atefeh worked in the Reference Laboratory of Western Iran (2017-2019) and contributed to the Nosocomial Infection Research Center (2016-2017). Her commitment to health services also extends to her early work at the Medical Biology Research Center in Kermanshah, where she gained hands-on experience and skills in laboratory diagnostics.

In 2017, Atefeh was part of the Executive Committee for the 5th National and 1st International Congress on Novel and Innovative Laboratory Technologies. As a co-organizer, she contributed to the symposium’s success, helping bring together professionals and researchers to discuss advancements in laboratory science. Atefeh is also the Chairman of Exir Gharb Company, a prominent manufacturer of laboratory equipment and reagents. Founded in 2013, Exir Gharb specializes in producing blood collection tubes, including granulated serum separator tubes with clot activators. This product line was developed from Atefeh’s patent, demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit and innovative approach to laboratory equipment.

Contributions and Research Focus 🔬

Atefeh’s research interests center on laboratory diagnostics and tumor biology, with a strong focus on biomolecular markers related to cancer progression and immune response. Her graduate research on the regulation of SIRT, NF-κB, and P53 in breast cancer cell lines provided insight into how glucose levels impact cancer cell behavior, a study relevant to understanding cancer in diabetic patients. Through her work at the COVID-19 Reference Laboratory and in diagnostics for HIV/AIDS and influenza, Atefeh has also contributed to understanding and managing infectious diseases, demonstrating her adaptability across various fields of medical science. Her expertise spans molecular diagnostics, tumor biology, and disease control, allowing her to make substantial contributions to both cancer and infectious disease research.
